Challenge:
To elevate the Matildas and Socceroos social graphics across key campaigns and calendar events to enhance fan engagement and ignite conversation around milestones and announcements.
Solution:
SDA were engaged by Football Australia in 2022 to provide graphic and creative support for the Matildas for some key announcements around fixtures and player milestones. These designs extended across game day promotions, fixtures announcements, a template suite of assets for always on social promotion, bespoke player features and event day assets to be used in real time based on results.
This suite of graphics allowed us to enter the world of football and elevate the Women’s National team in a World Cup year.
Working with the Matildas has always allowed us to have creative flexibility in our graphics but have loved the detail orientated approach that comes from the brand owners themselves that ensure consistency and credibility of the brand is always maintained. There is a fine line between going off brand, and being creative with the branded elements that designers need to strike when designing for and with some of the world’s nations most recognisable assets.
Outcome:
The delivery of international football meant that there are alot of things to communicate to your audience but with limited time and access to talent Allowing the Matildas to do a communication job with their fans by having access to a wide range of talented designers to produce high quality content with quick turnarounds was key for them to see value in the relationship.
Working on these graphics led to a much longer working relationship between the two of us resulting in a number of graphics and designs over a multi month period.
The Socceroos became invested in the work of SDA not long after and looked for a similar solution for graphics whilst they built their internal capabilities off the back of their World Cup success. Our creative team helped deliver a mix of templated assets for always on social and bespoke creations for key milestones and announcements in the period to amplify their presence on social.
